I have had many express uncertainties to me about their security service because they had never been in law enforcement or professional security before serving at their ministry. If you are among those who occasionally feel uncertain, I want to give you some historical perspective.
“What if they do not believe me or listen to me…?”(Exodus 4:1)
But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.” (Exodus 4:13)
But Moses said to the Lord, “If the Israelites will not listen to me, why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I speak with faltering lips?” (Exodus 6:12)
…“We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.” (Numbers 13:31)
“Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” (Judges 6:15)
“… I’m only a poor man and little known.” (1 Samuel 18:23)
“Now, Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties.” (1 Kings 3:7)
“I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.” (1 Kings 19:4)
“Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.” (Jeremiah 1:6)
… “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” (Luke 5:8)
Think About it…
Do not let failure, fear or fatigue hinder your service.
Don’t say, “I am untrained, uneducated, from the wrong background, hang out with the wrong crowd and I talk funny. Or that you are too… young, old, boring, unequipped, unconvincing, uncertain, short, fat, skinny, clumsy, slow, poor, unknown, unworthy, weak, busy or tired.”
He’s heard all that.
The only flaw that can stop you when called is “unwilling.”
History is full of ordinary people used for specific purposes. Our God has a habit of qualifying the called over calling the qualified. That doesn’t excuse the need for training.
Be confident in your calling, but get trained.
