We saw another good example of faith-based security operators performing effectively in West Bloomfield, Michigan, again this week.
Temple Israel, of West Bloomfield is the synagogue equivalent of a Megachurch. According to their website, they are “the nation’s largest Reform synagogue.” Some estimate their membership to be over 12,000.
We know there were over 100 children in the building at 12:15 PM Thursday, March 12th when an angry extremist attacked. He drove his truck into the doors and down an aisle, shooting as he went.
Two things stand out about this attack.
First, a security team lead was right there as he drove in. That team leader was struck and knocked down, and became the only injury not related to smoke inhalation (34 responding officers were treated for smoke inhalation).
The fact that he was right there is amazing. That is a massive facility. What kind of information did they have, and when did they get that information, that resulted in a team leader right there when the ill-prepared Jihadist-wannabe came through the door?
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said later that they (the Sheriff’s Office and area faith-based security operators) had “trained together for years.” He also said he had texted the security folks at Temple Israel 2 days earlier, warning them to be extra vigilant given what was happening around the world.
He was prophetically and precisely right.
Because of their determination to be there protecting their synagogue, we can read of the other most remarkable of all things.
Not one child or staff member was hurt. Let that soak in.
That is the goal of every faith-based security operator in America.
The FBSN stands with our Jewish friends.
Those who hurt children have a special judgment coming. The hatred and vileness of that attacker is a stench.
Think About it
However, we can now brace for reports hailing that attacker as a broken-hearted family man, and the frenzy that such reporting provokes. Social media will buzz next week with support for the dead criminal and anger at everything good associated with this incident.
And that will increase the likelihood of copycats.
