As an outdoorsman, I submitted an article I wrote for consideration by outdoor magazines several years ago. I was pleased that Fur Fish and Game picked it up for their June 2012 cover story.
The article was about an encounter I had with an especially large and aggressive grizzly in Alaska in 2007. If you want to read that article (nothing to do with church security), you can buy the Fur Fish & Game, June 2012 edition at;

I named the article “Old Friends in Alaska” because it was my friend from Kindergarten, with whom I was hunting. John and I have been friends for over 60 years, and we still talk several times a month.
FF & G editors made very few revisions, but the ones they did make were a total misrepresentation of me.
First, they renamed my article, “The Big Bad Bear”. Sounds like a fairy tale! But it was the fabricated subtitle that made me throw the magazine down and refuse to read my own article for many days. Under the title, and in quotation marks (indicating I had said it) came the statement, “May I never again see such a beast this close”.
Nothing could be a further misrepresentation of anything I would have said, written, or thought. It will always be one of my favorite memories. But editors will make it sound how they want for sales. Marketing eclipses truth.
I despise being misrepresented.
How does God feel about being misrepresented?
Do you represent God (and His Word) based on His truths or your opinions? I grew up thinking that using the Lord’s name in vain was saying curse words with His name in them. Now that I understand how wrong it is to misrepresent Him, I read Exodus 20:7 differently, as representation.
You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
Think About it:
Most of you will never speak to the media. But your words and actions are seen by many. Opinions about a ministry are formed by the people who represent it. Since your ministry exists to represent God (if yours doesn’t, reconsider which horse you have your wagon hitched to), you are out there on the public front line representing Him in all you do.
Do not misrepresent Him.
