This coming weekend’s Sheepdog Coffee event can be shared with non-members. It will provide a glimpse at SOS.26 keynote speaker, Jeff Struecker, who has never before spoken to an FBSN audience.
On June 5th, 1993, 25 Pakistani Peacekeepers assigned to UNOSOM (United Nations Operations in Somalia) were killed when militiamen of the Somali National Alliance opened fire on them as they were inspecting a building. The attack was the most serious attack on UN troops in over 30 years. Pakistan and other nations began to withdraw from Somalia. But the hostilities continued under the rogue regime of warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid, causing significant and urgent international concern.
The tensions escalated until U.S. forces led an effort to capture Aidid on October 2nd, 1993, where he was thought to have been hiding in the Olympic Hotel in Mogadishu. This was the battle that took the lives of 18 American Soldiers, and injured another 84. Those 102 casualties represented over 50% of the personnel involved in the initial assault. It was the highest American casualty count since the Vietnam war.
The remarkable stories of heroism, survivors, casualties, and rescuers gave America some of the greatest heroes to emerge since WWII. One of those rescuers has become an author and pastor since his time with the U.S. Army. Jeff Struecker was awarded the Silver Star for his incredible actions of rescue in that epic battle made famous by the book and movie, “Black Hawk Down” (Struecker’s character was played by Brian Van Holt in the movie).
Though being awarded with the Silver Star for his actions while serving with the U.S. Army, 75th Ranger Regiment, you will find his humble and transparent portrayal of that battle (known to the soldiers there as “Operation Gothic Serpent”) to move you towards readiness like you may have never been moved before.
Jeff will be a keynote speaker at SOS.26 and you will understand why after hearing him this coming Saturday.
You will also get an email regarding this, which you can forward to your non-member friends.
