This message is by David Dixon, Chairman of the Board, FBSN.
As I reflect on the tragic events of the last few days, my heart has been deeply grieved over all that is going on in our country. The shooting at a high school in Denver, the murder of a young woman on public transportation, and the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk have driven me to a time of deep reflection before the Lord. I have had deep conversations with my adult children who are devastated this week and who are raising young children and wondering what kind of world they are raising their children in. In my life there are a few landmark incidents that are etched in my memory forever. I remember exactly where I was as a young boy when Neal Armstrong landed on the moon and uttered those famous words, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” I also remember exactly where I was when President Reagan was shot and I clearly remember in horror watching the planes crash into the World Trade Center towers 24 years ago. I also believe this will be one of those weeks we will all remember and will be profoundly impacted by.
Let me be crystal clear, I condemn violence of any kind whether it is political violence or violence in the neighborhoods of the communities we all live in. There is no room in our country for the kind of attacks that we have been seeing over the last few months. As I have spent lots of time thinking and praying about these events of the last few days my spirit tells me that these heinous attacks are not over. I am incredibly grateful to all of you who stand on the wall so that our churches might be places of freedom and sanctuaries where the gospel of Jesus Christ can be proclaimed week by week. I challenge you to step up your game in the weeks ahead. The Bible says evil is as cunning as a serpent, and we all need great wisdom in what we do as sheepdogs to ward off that evil. My 40 years of experience in the faith-based security arena tells me for us to “be ready”.
I urge you to take a look at all you do with fresh eyes and a new perspective as you work to keep your church safe. Evaluate your training protocols, review the equipment you have, review your procedures and be prepared because the evil one is among us and wants to destroy all the things the Lord stands for. Hit your knees in prayer every day that a hedge of protection will fall upon our churches across this great land and that the Gospel of Jesus Christ will continue to go out.
One thing I know with certainty: Our God Reigns and he is still on his throne and in control even when things around us feel so totally out of control. It is a privilege to serve in a community of faithful defenders with each of you. May the Lord greatly bless you, your families, and your churches. Thank you for standing on the wall and making a real difference week by week.
