In Wayne, MI on June 22nd, 2025 a man opened fire on the Crosspointe Community Church from the outside during Sunday morning services. Police were already preparing to respond to the church due to the man’s odd dress and behavior reported by callers moments before he started shooting. He was dressed in camouflage and a tactical vest and driving his silver SUV erratically in the parking lot.
At some point the man exited his vehicle and began shooting an A/R 15 at the church. A congregant pulling into the parking lot in a Ford pickup saw him shooting into the church and ran his truck into him to stop him. Apparently at the same time, church security operators were coming towards the killer. One of them shot and killed the attacker before he could regain balance and continue shooting.
The attacker is dead and one security operator was shot twice in the leg. Reports vary as to whether or not that security operator was the one who killed the attacker. The security operator’s wounds are non-life threatening and nobody else was hurt. The attacker was also carrying a handgun with an extended magazine and more than a dozen magazines and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. Police discovered even more firearms and ammunition in his vehicle.
The 31-year-old attacker attended the church on an irregular basis with his mother. His recent Facebook posts included veiled complaints about the church. He had posted;
Ephesians 5:11
Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
And…
Luke 12:3
What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs.
And…
“You have not only lied to men, but have lied unto the spirit of the Lord. His blood is on your hands.”
The Wayne Police Department issued a statement that the man, “may have been suffering a mental health crisis,” and that he “had no prior contact with law enforcement officers.”
Crosspointe Community Security, you did the right thing. There will be a time to break it all down and learn from details, but as the sun rises the day after, we salute you for your preparations and actions.
