A great deal of attention is due to the issue of child abuse in the church. The recent news this week of 88 children being removed from the Shekinah Glory Camp in Columbus Junction, Iowa has gotten a lot of attention.
Teenage Children from across America are sent to the camp by their parents or guardians as a means of intervention for drug use. A 15-year-old boy from Texas, who allegedly did not want to be at the camp, called authorities to claim camp leaders had abused him. Of course, camp officials are denying it, and child advocacy groups are pushing for prosecution.
There is strong consensus that “children never lie.” Organizations such as the First Witness Child Advocacy Center claim, “Studies have shown that the current estimated rate of false allegations and disclosures is only 1.8 to 4.7% of all cases involving child abuse.”
I believe there are more truthful children than non-truthful, but that is on a sliding scale based on age and other circumstances. I doubt seriously that those numbers are accurate among teenagers using drugs.
Another issue nobody is talking about, is the effects of marijuana (and alcohol for that matter) on teenagers. Again, many “studies” claim Cannabis as totally safe and non-addictive for recreational use.
Anyone who has struggled with a teenager addicted to marijuana knows that statement is a fabrication of the Cannabis industry.
I am not advocating for that child or that camp, I am hoping for truth in this matter. And there are three underlying truths to sort through;
1) Child abuse has gone on for far too long and been far too covered up in faith-based organizations in the U.S.
2) Marijuana and alcohol are gateway drugs, both more dangerous incrementally based on the age of first use
3) “I am the way and the truth and the life.” Jesus
To God I pray, “Truth is no longer a commodity of value in our nation. Please help us in every situation to search for, discover and be truth.”
