For the first time a deadly force incident occurred at a church where the FBSN had just put on a security event 5 weeks earlier. On 4/5/25 Carl Chinn, Shanna Honeycutt and others spoke to a crowd of 100 or so security operators from Omaha, NE area churches at the Divine Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Exactly 5 weeks later, on Saturday night, 5/10/25 the church had contracted out use of their space for another event (a birthday party for a 5-year-old and a gender reveal for an upcoming birth). No security operators were present as they are not required to cover contracted events. An argument broke out and a 33-year-old male opened fire inside the church wounding two others. The shooter was held by others until police arrived. Both victims are expected to survive.
Do you contract out your space? Is your security program connected with those events? Would the presence of security, have caused the shooter (who became angry at his cousin “for the way he was looking at him”) to second guess his actions before he committed them?
