Churches often serve the community in roles such as being a reunification center.
In Chatham, IL on Monday 4/28/25 a 44 year-old woman drove clear through a building and into the fenced play area behind. The building operated as a place for children to go after school. The horrific incident claimed the lives of 4 girls; two were 7, one was 8, and one was 18-years-old. Many other children were rushed to area hospitals.
While the driver was taken into custody, she was soon released as the investigation did not immediately determine there was any crime or violent intent. The cause has not been released.
As news spread, terrified parents rushed to the scene to see how their children were. They were directed to the nearby Chatham Baptist Church, which had been instantly set up as a reunification center.
Is your church ready for such a tragedy? Do you have sound plans for your church if thrown into such a role?
