Almost every church has outdoor offsite events. Across the world the new tool of choice for mass casualty killers is vehicles. On Saturday night 4/26/25, at a mass gathering of the Filipino community in Vancouver, British Columbia, a 30-year-old man “known to the community” plowed through their event with a car. The toll of the dead and injured continues to climb.
You really must work with your local law-enforcement to plan outdoor off-site events. Of course that doesn’t exclude indoor-offsite or outdoor onsite events, but there is a special degree of planning for outdoor offsite events.
Your own vehicles can be used as an effective mobile barrier if the terrain, layouts, property and authorities are conducive to that. It is only a matter of time before we read of one of these vehicular mass casualty attacks being at a faith-based organization. Vehicles are already the 3rd most commonly used weapon in deadly force incidents at faith based organizations. We've just been fortunate that none have been a mass-casualty attack.
