The “Think About it” I had intended for today is not ready.
I wanted to write more about the Gulfport, MS tragedy where Eddie Shed, the Director of Security for Empowerment Ministries Christian Center gave his life defending children of the church. It happened at an Easter Egg hunt on Saturday 4/12/25.
An Easter Egg hunt!
There has been a lot of assumptions put out about this attack, but few things we know. It was caused by a man with a gun and anger who was trying to take his estranged child. We also know that Eddie Shed was killed and that church member Jimmy Nance (another good guy who intervened), remains in the hospital.
I am here in Gulfport, MS now to walk the site, sort through details and pay respects to Eddie Shed at his funeral. He is a Model of Gallantry for all defenders to heed.
In a stunning turn of discovery, I have learned of some church leaders in other states who say this case is exactly why they will not have a security program. They don’t want any of their members (like Eddie Shed) to be put in harm’s way.
Think About That!
So, you would rather the dead mourned at the funeral today would have been children who had nobody to stand between them and evil? Shed would come out of his grave to protest such a response.
Another thing we know is that no child died or was taken. I learned at the funeral that no child was even hurt. That was a direct result of Eddie Shed and Jimmy Nance standing between evil and innocence.
Pray for those children who will always remember Easter different than we will.
