Lt. Col. (ret.) Dave Grossman is one of the best orators I have ever been around. I am honored to be his friend.
Years ago, Dave and I were speaking at the same event in Virginia Beach, VA. My wife went along (since our son was stationed at Norfolk – it was an opportunity for Deana to see grandchildren). I talked her into going to the conference one day to hear Dave.
She asked, “one speaker for four hours!?” She told me how she loved our pastor but wouldn’t even want to listen to him for four hours. Nonetheless she went.
She sat on the edge of her seat the whole time – and took notes! Deana never takes notes.
Everyone has a story. Some can tell it. Some tell it well. Dave Grossman tells it exceptionally well.
What is his story?
It is the landmark study of the mental mindset of defenders. Dave launched the label “Sheepdog” which resonates withdefenders. It all started with an essay he wrote, “On Sheep, Wolves and Sheepdogs.” That now-classic essay has become the credo to those who devote themselves to protecting others. It answers the question of why we protect.
Think About it
Grossman was a West Point Psychology Professor who has testified before the U.S. Senate, Congress, and numerous state legislatures. He has been called upon to write the entry on “Aggression and Violence” in the Oxford Companion to American Military History, three entries in the Academic Press Encyclopedia of Violence, Peace and Conflict and has presented papers before the national conventions of the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
His diligence and acumen in the field of violence & readiness has resulted in articles published in the Harvard Journal of Law and Civil Policy and many leading law enforcement journals. Grossman has been inducted as a "Life Diplomate" by the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security, and a "Life Member" of the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute.
He (and a host of other top shelf speakers) will present at our national convention this year; the Security Operations Summit, 2024.
If you’ve been before, you’re probably already signed up. For those of you who have never attended this incredible annual summit of faith-based defenders, we hope to see you there.
