Church security teams may encounter individuals experiencing emotional distress, suicidal crises, threatening behavior, or other situations where effective communication is essential to protecting lives.
Drawing on 20 years of law enforcement experience, including service as a lead crisis negotiator and trainer for the Reno Police Department, James Pitsnogle will share practical principles of crisis negotiation and de-escalation that can be applied in faith-based environments.
Attendees will explore how active listening, communication techniques, emotional awareness, and sound judgment can help reduce tensions, build rapport, and create opportunities for peaceful resolution.
From difficult encounters during worship services to potentially life-threatening situations, this session will challenge church security personnel to recognize that some of the most important tools they carry are not on their duty belts—they are their words.
