Multiple shootings have taken place in schools, workplaces, and houses of worship across the nation and around the world, and they continue to raise the issue of safety and security where people live, work, and play. While active violence continues to escalate, forward thinking administrators and risk managers are looking at safeguards that can be taken to protect their personnel and guests. But what is truly effective?

Utilizing specific case studies, details of truly effective violence mitigation strategies emerge. This session will include insights from the shooting at The Covenant School, and the properly implemented mitigation strategies deployed by the faculty and staff during the fourteen minutes prior to law enforcement being able to neutralize the threat.

The presenter shares details from the Covenant School tragedy based on his direct involvement as the trainer who conducted active violence mitigation training for the school prior to the attack. In the aftermath, he participated in in-depth debriefings with faculty and staff and was granted access to walk through the crime scene alongside the homicide unit within 48 hours.
