About the speaker
Tim Hazlette is a native of Kentucky where he was reared and educated in the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Kentucky. Upon graduation from the University of Kentucky in 1978, he joined the Kentucky State Police as a Police Radio Dispatcher stationed at the Pikeville Post. He entered Cadet Trooper School in 1979, graduating in January 1980 and being assigned to Post 9 in Pikeville, KY. He served in numerous assignments in all KSP divisions. In 2003, he retired at the rank of Colonel after 25 ½ years of service with the Kentucky State Police. Since retirement from KSP, Hazlette has continued to work in the public safety field which includes his work with Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) as an Assessor over the past 21 years. In addition, he served as Chief of Police in the City of Campbellsville, Kentucky for 3 ½ years and also served as a Court Security Officer at the United States District Court in Lexington, KY. Hazlette currently serves as an Investigator/Compliance Officer for the Kentucky Office of State School Security Marshal. Hazlette joined the University of Kentucky Transportation Center, LTAP Program as a contract instructor for Traffic Incident Management in 2016. He previously served as an adjunct faculty member for Eastern Kentucky University, Department of Police Studies in the College of Justice and Safety and as a Graduated Divers License Program Instructor teaching traffic safety classes at area high schools. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Education from the University of Kentucky (1978) and earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Kentucky State University (1988). In addition, he is an alumnus of Leadership Kentucky class of 1993.
